Don't Get Stuck on the Legalities
Currently in England and Wales a Celebrant cant produce the legal marriage certificate and legally marry you but does that bother you?
Okay traditionally we all think about clutching that marriage certificate on our wedding day, but nowadays that's not how it works. Everything is on line and you order a copy of the marriage licence.
Many couples have opted to think again about their perceptions of a wedding ceremony, and have opted (as revealed by Hitched) to prefer to have a Celebrant led wedding ceremony. Thats because a Celebrant can offer a 100% bespoke personal ceremony whereas a Registrar cant.
A Celebrant led wedding service can take any format or structure you want from traditional, modern, contemporary; in fact a Celebrant doesn't have any rules so you can make it how YOU want it to be, where you want it to be, and what time you want it to be, and how long you want it to be, have inclusion of religions or none, and offer non binary weddings for example (get the picture?)
Still cant get your head around it?
When you register a birth or a death, you pop along to the Registry Office, have a short meeting and sort the paperwork out. That's exactly what couples who prefer a celebrant led wedding do, they book a 2+2 basic ceremony meeting with the Registrar and bobs your uncle, that's the legal paperwork sorted. Thats the admin day done, then leaving them to work with a celebrant designing a ceremony that can include your love story, any readings, poems, sing-a-longs, rituals, special elements etc conducted on their wedding day.
Isn't it a bit Fake?
No, Its all in the beauty of the celebration. A Celebrant led wedding ceremony, you can say your promises and vows to one another, and express what you mean to each other, and your hopes and promises for your future in front of all your family and friends, so there wont be anything fake about that.
